On VACATION…but thinking about you.
As a self-employed professional or small business owner, is the word VACATION in your vocabulary? Ironically enough, most small business owners find it stressful balancing their personal and business lives; yet work/life balance is the ultimate goal.
I think as a society, Americans need to take back their VACATIONS, stop stacking them up for a rainy day, and not care so much about winning the award for having worked the most hours.
By putting the VACATION principal to work in my own life, I discoverd along the way that VACATIONS really do assist in creating balance in your life…and this year was no exception!
As my husband, my son, and I traveled to Orlando, Florida, I realized I was as excited as a kid with a $10 bill in a candy store. We had an awesome time truly enjoying the sights, the adventures and each other’s company along the way.
Island of Adventure and Univeral Studios were just as great as we had imagined they would be. We were having such a great time that I had to stop for a moment to take it all in and that’s when I discovered how VACATIONS create balance in your life.
I feel truly blessed to be at a point in my life where I can plan VACATIONS around the needs of my family and not around the needs of my job. I still have stressful days and wear a lot of hats but I enjoy what I do. And when it all gets to be too much, I’m usually the first to plan a VACATION.
All work and no play makes life *DULL* and not taking time off from work can actually hurt your business. To drive this point home, I thought I’d pass along a program I found pretty interesting. Here, Dr. Mark Rosekind, Ph.D., founder of Alertness Solutions, talks about the surprising results of tests performed on vacationers. Take a listen and then go ahead and plan your next VACATION. You’ll be glad you did!
